Monsoon Evening in Tucson.
Acrylic on canvas. 2016.
This piece is from a memory from 2002 on Harrison Road on the east side of Tucson, Arizona. My spousal unit and I came across the beginnings of a flooded road. We were about to cross this wash, when a rush of brown water started to cross as we approached. We waited a bit, but decided to turn around and go a different route home. Every year the news reports about someone unfortunate soul who wanted to test the waters of a flooded road. The water usually wins, and the motorist is caught stranded atop his vehicle. The waters look shallow but people don’t gauge the force of a small amount of water running through a wash. Many of the roads here in Tucson cross washes, or in some cases, are also washes.
